Jain Temple is an ancient temple
located in the heart of Sulthan Bathery town in the Wayanad district. This is one
of the most important amongst a series of ruins spread across Kerala that
testify to a period of a strong Jain presence in this region and is also one of
the best heritage places to visit in Wayanad. The Jain Temple at Sultan Bathery
is believed to have been built in the 13th century AD. The temple has an
interesting history. It first served as a shrine, and then became an important
center of commercial activity. Later in the 18th century, it became a dumping
ground for ammunitions by Tipu Sultan.

Wayanad Heritage Museum, also known
as the Ambalavayal Heritage Museum, is an archaeological museum that has an
impressive collection of artifacts belonging to the tribes of the region. It

tagged as rare. Some of these artifacts have been dated back to the Neolithic
era and include regular daily items, decorative items, terracotta figurines,

EDAKKAL CAVES VISIT

journey into our forgotten past. Located 10 kms from Sulthan Bathery, they have
provided historians with great information regarding the lives and habits of
our ancestors. The caves are two natural rock formations believed to have been
formed by a large split in a huge rock. The carvings inside are extremely
beautiful. A trek up the majestic Ambukuthimala Hills is required to reach
these caves. The aroma of coffee stays with you the entire way. It is truly a
surreal experience as we step into the palms of history. The caves were first
discovered by the then Superintendent of Police of Malabar District, Fred
Fawcett in 1895 during one of his hunting trips. Fawcett found that the
caves were the habitat of Neolithic people, and his discovery drew the
attention of archaeologists and historians across the world.
POOKODE LAKE VISIT
While reaching this gorgeous
lake, you will be experiencing a calm and peaceful environment around. The lake
is surrounded by forest and you will see green and green all around, making
this place an ideal location for photographers and nature lovers. One of the main
tributaries of the Kabani River, the Panamaram rivulet originates from here. The
perennial freshwater lake has the shape of an Indian map. You can sight blue
lotus and numerous freshwater fishes. Blue water lilies also can be seen
scattered here and there in the water. The sight of wild animals and birds in
the surrounding forest of the lake is another attraction of this destination.
Another big attraction of Pookode Lake is the widespread presence of wild
