VISIT DEEPANJALI LAMP MUSEUM
At the Deepanjali Lamp Museum, one
can find lamps from across the world, from different civilizations and empires, and from different centuries. The place is a feast for the eyes and leaves one
mesmerized as one goes through the lamps on display. From the simple stone and
granite lamps to the vibrantly colored and intricately designed lams from
Ottoman Empire, the museum houses a very wide range of lamps. The Empires which
ruled the Indian subcontinent through different ages can be revisited here. The
cultural exchange across different empires visualized through lamps will remain
ingrained in your minds for a long time.
PAZHASSIRAJA ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
VISIT
Pazhassi Raja Museum in Calicut is a
treasure cove for aficionados of art, archaeology, and history. From mural
paintings, models of temples, and umbrella stones to antique bronzes and ancient
coins, the carefully curated collection of exhibits transports the visitors
back in time. The Pazhassi Raja Art Gallery which is adjacent to the museum
displays the famous paintings of the world-renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma.
The place, which is named after the great Pazhassiraja Kerala Varma of the
Padinjare Kovilakam, is indeed a treat for connoisseurs of art and history.
KERALA LALITHAKALA AKADEMI ART GALLERY
The Lalitha Kala Academy, the famous
art gallery in Kozhikode, was opened in 2012 and comes under the Kerala Lalitha
Kala Academy in Thrissur that is an autonomous organization of the Government
of Kerala though it funds the Academy and was set up in 1962 with a view to
preserve and promote painting, sculpture, architecture, graphics, culture and
visual arts. The Academy has a mini gallery which it lets out to conduct video
exhibitions, literary discussions, etc. by individual artists, cultural groups, and societies. It also has a reference library and a huge collection of paintings
done by eminent artists. It also houses archives of many films and
documentaries related to artists, and publishes catalogs, books, monographs, and
reproductions. The academy also recognizes the work of superior artists by
presenting them with Prestigious Awards.
MANANCHIRA SQUIRE & MOTHER OF GOD
CATHEDRAL VISIT
The Mananchira Square, located in
the heart of Kozhikode city, is constructed around the Mananchira tank. This
huge artificial pond built by the Zamorin King, Mana Vikrama, is fed by a
natural spring. The area around the tank has been converted into a park,
landscaped with trees, plants, and lawns. Mother of God Cathedral, locally known
as Valiya Palli, is situated close to Beach Road in Kozhikode. The church is
the headquarters of the Roman Catholic congregation in Malabar. Italian
architects were brought to Kozhikode for the sole purpose of designing this
Gothic-style cathedral. The curved arches above the doors and windows, the
colonnade on the spires and many other such architectural feats stand as a
testimony to the aesthetic sense of the Italian architects as well as the
artistic skill of the Indian workers.
VISIT KOZHIKODE BEACH
Kozhikode Beach is the favorite
spot for all those who enjoy watching the setting sun. It is also a prime location
for seafood lovers as it provides a wide variety of delicacies such as the
famous ‘Kallummakaya’ (mussels). Dolphin’s point is a rewarding tourist spot
where you might witness the mesmerizing sight of playful dolphins. In addition
to this, is the old lighthouse, the ancient piers and the Lion’s Park for
